Our vision for the "Tongchuan Service & Financial Headquarters Base" project is to create a building that complements and emphasizes the surrounding green. The residential garden is the extension of the park across the site, so the commercial part of the project is a public space surrounded by green from two sides. By carving out the mass from the building, we create the frames from one park to another, and at the same time, we get vibrant and active public space with variations of different ambient and urban vistas/frames to the parks. Commercial building this way doesn't break but instead connects these two green zones and becomes a great value commercial spot and the city's living room. Physically separated buildings are all connected by the same silhouette. Together, they are visually forming one longitudinal L shape Iconic building, making it a recognizable spot and will help this site to become a "place" to go. While the carved-out parts provide visuals, the green bridge allows a solid physical connection with the park and raises the use and value for both. We also added one internal street between residential and commercial that is mainly pedestrian retail street and allows accessible entrances and exits for the car parks and supplies for the shops. There is also one floor of the retail belt on the side of the residential garden that makes the retail experience better and allows privacy and better views for the residential garden that uses the roof of this part of the retail. This inner street also divides the residential garden from the commercial part, so this way, we avoid having the back of the house of the retail, which would make the residential garden enclosed by the bare wall from the south and west side.
Residential buildings are oriented towards the park, and the south-east side and the northern part of buildings have central space of the garden in front, to compensate for lack of view. The garden itself is a kind of park too since it has a spacious main area and several smaller spaces with different characters and ambient involving hills and water features and low and high green with the minimum of hardscapes in the garden.
